Dale is a renowned theatre director, and her extraordinary journey has taken her from Chicago to London, Glasgow, and beyond, leaving her mark on stages across the globe.

In this special live podcast event, Dale will share captivating stories from her illustrious career, including her experiences co-founding the BorderLight International Theatre + Fringe Festival in Cleveland and serving as Artistic & Executive Director. She will take us through her early beginnings at Footsteps, an equity theatre in Chicago, to her international success as one of the industry's leading directors.

Dale will also discuss her work as a dramaturge and Artistic Associate at London's prestigious Soho Theatre, her involvement in literary panels for top London theatres, and her role as a judge for international playwriting competitions. As a prolific director with over thirty professional productions under her belt, Dale has received numerous accolades, including the Jeff Awards, After Dark Awards, and the Arches Award for Directors.

Speaker Background

Dale Heinen is the co-founder, Artistic & Executive Director of the BorderLight International Theatre + Fringe Festival, which launched in Cleveland in 2019. Dale began her theatre career at Footsteps, an equity theatre in Chicago, where she was eventually named co-Artistic Director.

For three years she was listed as one of Chicago’s “Best Directors” in the trade paper, PerformInk. Dale then relocated to Europe and continued to direct new plays in Chicago, Glasgow, Cleveland, New York and London, and to workshop new plays in places like Japan and Brazil. For seven years she was a dramaturge and then Artistic Associate at Soho Theatre in London’s West End. She also served on literary panels for leading London theatres and as a judge for several international playwriting competitions.

Dale has directed over thirty professional productions; her work has been recognized by the Jeff Awards and After Dark Awards (both Chicago), and the Arches Award for Directors (Glasgow). She has a BA from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and an MFA in theatre directing from Middlesex University (London)
