Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), coordinated globally by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), is the world's largest celebration of entrepreneurship, bringing together founders, investors, educators, policymakers, and ecosystem builders across more than 180 countries to empower entrepreneurs and foster innovation.
This year marked a milestone for Morocco as Startup Universe Morocco (SUM) hosted Global Entrepreneurship Week Morocco for the first time under the theme:
"Building Unicorns and Shaping the Global South – Think Big. Act Small. Build for Impact."
Throughout the week, founders, investors, mentors, and ecosystem leaders from Africa, MENA, Europe, and the United States came together to exchange ideas, build meaningful connections, and equip entrepreneurs with practical tools to scale globally.
The celebration opened with "Women & Unicorns – Leading with Impact," a session highlighting the journeys of inspiring women founders and ecosystem leaders. Their experiences demonstrated that inclusive leadership is not only essential for stronger ecosystems but also a competitive advantage in building resilient and high-growth startups.
Midweek, entrepreneurs participated in "Designing for Scale – Business Models & Go-to-Market Strategy," an interactive workshop focused on transforming ideas into scalable ventures. Founders refined their business models, explored customer acquisition strategies, and developed practical go-to-market plans designed for sustainable growth.
Investment readiness remained another major focus of the week. During the "Financials & Investor Readiness Deep Dive," startups received hands-on guidance on financial modeling, fundraising strategy, and investor expectations. Rather than simply preparing founders to pitch, the session emphasized building financially disciplined companies capable of attracting long-term investment.
A key highlight was SUM's participation at EMEC Expo, where two flagship sessions connected Moroccan entrepreneurs with global best practices. "The Unicorn Mindset" encouraged founders to think ambitiously while executing with discipline, while "Strictly VC: How to Become Investment-Ready in the Global South?" provided practical insights into what investors look for and how startups from emerging markets can strengthen their positioning.
Beyond the conference sessions, several Moroccan startups showcased their innovations through exhibition booths, creating opportunities to engage with investors, partners, and visitors from across the region. These interactions strengthened international visibility while opening doors to future collaborations.
More than a week of events, GEW Morocco demonstrated the growing maturity of Morocco's entrepreneurial ecosystem and the importance of connecting local talent with global opportunities. It reinforced the belief that founders from the Global South can build globally competitive companies when supported by the right networks, knowledge, and partnerships.
As part of the worldwide Global Entrepreneurship Week movement led by the Global Entrepreneurship Network, Startup Universe Morocco is proud to contribute to an ecosystem where ambitious entrepreneurs can learn, connect, and grow alongside peers from around the world.
Because building the next generation of global companies starts with one bold decision:
Think Big. Act Small. Build for Impact.
As the week came to a close, one message resonated across every session, conversation, and connection:
The Universe is Calling… Make Sure to Answer.
