Swakopmund, Namibia – The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) is excited to announce the opening of a new Startup Huddle chapter in Swakopmund, Namibia to support the growth of the local startup community while crowdsourcing advice and support for its entrepreneurs. Swakopmund joins a global network of more than 50 Startup Huddle chapters worldwide and will host their first event on April 23, 2021.
In addition to providing direct support to entrepreneurs, the program addresses a critical element of success for all entrepreneur ecosystems – connectivity. According to GEN research, startup communities with higher levels of local connectedness translate to an increased number of startups – and that founders with high levels of connectivity grow their revenue twice as fast as those with lower levels.
“Swakopmund is a global tourist destination with the oldest desert in the world,” said Johanna Cloete, Managing Director for GEN Namibia. “When COVID 19 hit, the local hospitality industry came to a complete standstill. Startup Huddle Swakopmund will bring together the leaders and supporters of the sector to mitigate the impact of COVID-19. I am excited to stand together as a community as we support the entrepreneurs overcoming the effects of the pandemic.”
Startup Huddle Swakopmund will be held on the third Friday of every month at Hello Startups. At each event, local founders give six-minute presentations outlining challenges facing their companies. Each presentation is followed by a 20-minute conversation with an audience of peers, mentors, educators and advisers who provide constructive criticism focused on finding solutions and increasing founder know-how. With new founders cycling through each gathering, and previous presenters joining the audience to give back, the community continues to expand while connections deepen.
Startup Huddle Swakopmund is supported by Van der Walt Designs and Printing, Radio Energy 100 FM, and the Namibia Broad Casting Corporation.
