The Creative Business Cup (CBC) is a world championship for entrepreneurs in the creative industries e.g. fashion, design, gaming, music, film, content production, renewable energy, architecture, etc. While these industries hold great potential, creative entrepreneurs do not often have the business skills necessary to take their ideas to the next level.
The Creative Business Cup empowers entrepreneurs in the creative industries to connect them to investors and global markets and strengthens their innovative capabilities to the benefit of the industry and society.
Each year, the Creative Business Cup National Partners around the globe host national competitions; and thereafter, the national winners compete against each other at the global finals in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This year, the Creative Business Cup (CBC) came to Nigeria and was hosted by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) Nigeria in collaboration with Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of the Pan-Atlantic University. The key objective of CBC Nigeria is to harness innovative ideas from young people in the creative sector with the key aim of promoting, celebrating them and emerging with a finalist to represent Nigeria at the global finals in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Creative Business Cup Nigeria started with the creation of the application on the YouNoodle platform. The YouNoodle platform is the assigned application platform for the CBC Competition. 1,420 entries were received from the six (6) geo-political zones of the country across 15 industries within the creative sector. At the close of applications, the 1,420 entries received were screened by experts out of which 50 were shortlisted and invited for a one-day Bootcamp on Tuesday, 26th March 2019. They were trained in different functional areas of business management and how to pitch their ideas.
After the Bootcamp, the 50 contestants pitched their ideas and 15 contestants were selected to proceed to the semi-final of the Creative Business Cup Nigeria. At the end of the semifinal, 5 finalists emerged for the national finals, the final was held on Friday 5th April 2019.
