An Affiliate of the Global Entrepreneurship Network
GEN Nigeria
GEN began operating in Nigeria in 2010 with the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week in partnership with the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan-Atlantic University. The initial campaign successfully engaged Nigeria’s emerging entrepreneurial community, laying a foundation for what would grow into a nationwide platform. During the following years, GEN expanded GEW by adding activities including the Arewa Festival—a showcase of the creativity and enterprise of northern Nigeria—the GEW Walk, GEW Radio, a women founders day, and a youth entrepreneurial dialogue. The success of GEW led to a broad-based coalition and year-round programming. GEN established a national affiliate, GEN Nigeria, which coordinates startup support activities, conducts programs for entrepreneurs, and connects Nigerian founders to GEN's global resources. GEN’s global programs in Nigeria include Startup Huddle, with chapters in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt. GEN maintains relationships with a broad range of Nigerian institutions, among them the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), the Bank of Industry, and Providus Bank. GEN's goals in Nigeria remain what they have been since 2010: connecting founders with the knowledge, networks, capital, and policy support they need to scale.
