About GEN Jamaica
GEN Jamaica is the national affiliate of the Global Entrepreneurship Network, which operates a platform of projects and programs in 200 countries aimed at making it easier for anyone, anywhere to start and scale a business.
GEN began operating in Jamaica in 2010 when it launched Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), a global campaign that celebrates entrepreneurs. GEN Jamaica was officially established in 2022. It is led by a board of directors made up of distinguished ecosystem leaders, and its team includes a managing director and national hosts.
GEN Jamaica’s mission is to build a unified ecosystem that collaborates with stakeholders to foster globally competitive and innovative entrepreneurs. Its overarching goal is to foster deeper collaborations among entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers and local entrepreneurial support organizations.
GEN Jamaica works with its international partners to fuel a healthier start and scale ecosystems locally that create jobs, educate individuals, accelerate innovation and strengthen economic growth. Its access to an extensive global network ensures that Jamaica’s entrepreneurs have access to the most relevant knowledge, networks, and programs relevant to their businesses. GEN Jamaica helps celebrate, support and connect entrepreneurs and those who champion them.
CELEBRATE
GEN Jamaica is the primary host and coordinator of Global Entrepreneurship Week in Jamaica, an annual campaign featuring workshops, panels, and pitch events to celebrate and empower local business owners. Each November through GEW, GEN Jamaica celebrates the successes and impact of entrepreneurs and the local organizations that support them.
SUPPORT
GEN Jamaica supports Jamaican entrepreneurs through networking, knowledge transfer, and leadership training. It ensures local entrepreneurs and ecosystem leaders have access to GEN initiatives, which include the GEN Starters Club, Global Business Angels Network, and Startup Huddle, that help smooth the path to market, and provide entrepreneurs at all stages with the support necessary to reach their next level.
CONNECT
GEN Jamaica partners with various organizations to host informative events regarding both local and global entrepreneurship, enhancing collaboration among entrepreneurs, local support organizations and the startup community. Through virtual platforms such as its monthly Instagram live and its quarterly newsletter: Generate, GEN Jamaica connects key players in the entrepreneurial industry with the happenings in the ecosystem.
GEN Jamaica also connects Jamaica’s entrepreneurs to global opportunities which gives entrepreneurs a chance to access investment and prizes. For example, Jamaica’s Entrepreneurship World Cup winner in 2022 was a global quarterfinalist at the EWC Global Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In September 2023, GEN Jamaica won the GEN Country of the Year award at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in Melbourne, Australia. GEN Jamaica is the only GEN affiliate in the western hemisphere to have received this award.
