Penn State Mont Alto - LaunchBox Entrepreneurship

The Mont Alto LaunchBox, a program to promote entrepreneurship in Franklin County, will host its inaugural Entrepreneurship Fall Forum on November 14, from 12:20 p.m. to 1:10 p.m., in the Wiestling Student Center on Penn State Mont Alto’s campus. The forum will feature Penn State students who have not only developed their own business ideas, but have also been successful at acquiring funds to help launch their products into the marketplace. While the campus community and the public are invited, the forum is particularly meant to encourage and inspire students to venture into entrepreneurship.

During the event, Penn State’s James L. Delattre, assistant vice president for research and director of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization, will talk briefly about Invent Penn State and the Innovation Hubs that have resulted from this initiative. Penn State Mont Alto Chancellor Francis K. Achampong will then introduce Penn State student entrepreneur panelists Shevy Karbasi and Jobe Matula and facilitate a panel discussion.

Karbasi and his group, Moichor, have developed HemoGo – a mobile app that works in combination with a blood test strip reader to give individuals a blood count test at home or anywhere within 30 seconds that can then be sent electronically to a health care professional. He is a senior and a biology-vertebrate physiology major at Penn State.

Matula is a graduate of Ben Franklin’s TechCelerator program in Altoona. Working with the Happy Valley LaunchBox since 2017, his startup is called the LiveFirst Company. He has developed a pet-proof trash can that reduces the occurrences of pet poisonings and prevents pets from tipping over the can. He is a sophomore and studies marketing at Penn State.
