Ana Barjasic to guide GEN Portugal to strengthen international connections and implement new programs, initiatives

WASHINGTON, DC – The Global Entrepreneurship Network has appointed Ana Barjasic as managing director of GEN Portugal. In this role, Barjasic is responsible for expanding collaboration among the country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem leaders and connecting them to their counterparts in more than 170 countries.

Barjasic said Portugal is an interesting and well-developed ecosystem with a significant number of entrepreneurship friendly policies, but that it is still not globally recognized and is absent from many relevant international rankings. The goal of GEN Portugal, she said, with the support from the GEN Global community, is to showcase to the world all the great things happening in the country.

"There is a number of entrepreneurship focused initiatives, but support to entrepreneurs often ends with promotional campaigns and events,” said Barjasic. “GEN Portugal is all about enabling and coordinating a mechanism of experts, researchers, programs and related organizations in order to improve the existing ecosystem. Apart from hosting the Global Entrepreneurship Week, GEN Portugal activities range from regular contribution to the Startup Nations Atlas of Policies, with best practices to hosting global affiliated events such as Get in the Ring world finals in 2018."

At the global level, GEN operates in more than 170 countries. It fuels healthier start and scale ecosystems by fostering deeper cross-border collaboration and initiatives that engage entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers and entrepreneurship support organizations.

GEN Portugal aims to strengthen the ecosystem by focusing on:

  • Contributing to the international dissemination of Portuguese entrepreneurship, as well as to the creation of a business collaboration network focused on national and international events,
  • Developing projects with entities interested in adding to the development of the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem, by invovling thought-leaders, decision makers and other actors within the ecosystem, and
  • Organizing Global Entrepreneurship Week in Portugal

Alongside her role as GEN Portugal’s acting managing director, Barjasic also works with a number of entities within the international startup and investor ecosystem. She is also the coordinator of Business Angels Week.
