Q1: How did your start-up come about?

Esparon: My journey began two years ago over conversation with some friends whereby I decided to venture in a startup. After much research I created an app with the aim of creating visibility and marketability in globalizing creole music simultaneously and curb out piracy which is one of the major factor affecting the growth and expansion of local music.

Q2: Why did you choose to pursue entrepreneurship?

Esparon:  It was a prolonged interest of mine to found my own business/company in order to contribute in developing innovative business and ideas for the country. There is also a gap in the market not only for the sale and promotion of local music but also, the security and protection for local artists.

Q3: What obstacles did you encounter along the way?

Esparon: During the startup journey I experienced a few obstacles such as; accessibility to funds for innovative ventures; there are no dedicated loan schemes to fund innovative ideas, local startups not receiving the same level of attention as foreign investors. COVID-19 and its impact on the business environment, the quality of internet services available: internet is still very expensive and the upload speeds are very slow and the existence of generational barriers whereby the older generation are not open to innovation due to their values and beliefs

Q4: What advice can you offer to future Seychellois Entrepreneurs?

Esparon:  Be free thinkers, don’t stop dreaming and stay focused as you work towards making your dream into reality.  Moreover, you should always be positive, motivated and learn to persevere even if the odds may not always be in your favor. Further, Value Research as it is important to remain current on events happening in your field.
