The Dare to Aspire – Mentored to be a Mentor orientation convened an inspiring and insightful panel discussion on Best Practices and the Value of Mentorship, spotlighting the voices of exceptional women leaders and industry trailblazers who are actively shaping pathways for the next generation. The session created a dynamic space for shared learning, reflection, and meaningful dialogue on how mentorship can be leveraged as a powerful tool for personal growth, leadership development, and long-term impact.

Panelists emphasized that effective mentorship must be grounded in authenticity, trust, and innovation, with a clear commitment from both mentors and mentees to engage intentionally and consistently. They highlighted the importance of academic rigor, structured guidance, and resilience as critical elements for building sustainable mentor–mentee relationships that extend beyond short-term engagement. Professional stewardship, accountability, and the courage to ask questions were underscored as essential traits that empower young women to grow into confident and purpose-driven leaders.

A key highlight of the discussion was the shared commitment of women leaders who understand the transformative power of mentorship and are dedicated to giving back by investing their time, knowledge, and experience in young women. Their insights reinforced the idea that mentorship is not a one-sided exchange, but a collaborative journey that encourages curiosity, discipline, and continuous learning.

As the new cohort begins this journey, the orientation laid a strong foundation for growth, leadership, and impact, reminding participants that the responsibility to build, learn, and lead now rests in their hands. The Dare to Aspire initiative is implemented by InnovationSL and supported by the Ecological and Economic Transformation of Selected Value Chains (EET) Project, implemented by GIZ, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and co-financed by the European Union in Sierra Leone, reaffirming a shared commitment to empowering young women through mentorship and leadership development.
