As a proud supporter of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), UP Global is hosting Global Startup Battle (GSB) for the fourth year in a row! GSB is the world’s biggest startup competition and includes over 230 events in 83 countries. The theme this year is “Your City. Your Idea. Your Future.” At it’s core, GSB is about generating a strong global community of entrepreneurs through friendly competition and highlighting innovation from every corner of the globe.
GSB has a legacy of past winners continuing on to become successful entrepreneurs who build companies and give back to their community. UP Global continues that tradition by adding a new regional layer to the competition that allows teams to compete with teams from surrounding cities, before proceeding to a global round judged by influencers including Nas, Daymond John, Dan Martell, and more.
Teams are competing for prizes via various track sponsors as well as prizes from organizations looking to support the overall GSB champions. Prizes include: a trip to Milan provided by GEW; a booth at the 2015 CES from UP Global; and resources that will help teams continue to be successful.
Themed tracks include the Do the KIND Thing Track, fueled by KIND snacks and focused on social entrepreneurship, a Startup Women Track, the Innovator’s Track powered by .CO, the Education, Empowered Track powered by General Assembly, and of course, the Champions Track that will take the best teams from every event through a Regional Round before getting their final rank at the global level.
The first set of GSB Startup Weekends took place last weekend (November 14-16, 2014) and was a huge success. With more than 100 events happening at the same time across the globe, the hype spread and next weekend will be even bigger! Over 120 events will kick off the weekend of November 21-23, 2014 and then the competition moves online as teams compete against one another with video pitches.
With other fun ways to engage, like the Hashtag Battle (over 70,000 tweets and counting), GSB is a great place to see the most lively activities in the global entrepreneurial community during GEW.
