The Global Entrepreneurship Network is pleased to announce the opening of a new Startup Huddle chapter in Lusikisiki, South Africa, specifically supporting young female entrepreneurs who are paving the way for innovation and growth in the Eastern Cape. This chapter joins a global network of more than 60 Startup Huddle communities worldwide and hosted its first event on November 1, 2024, to offer local women founders a supportive environment to share ideas, gain feedback, and build lasting connections.
"Startup Huddle is a vital resource for our city, as it provides young female entrepreneurs in rural areas with the chance to grow their businesses, build confidence, and engage in meaningful connections," says Nobuntu Tintelo, the local organizer. "In Lusikisiki, our goal is to accelerate the growth of women-led ventures and foster an environment that enables founders to thrive."
Each Startup Huddle session features a series of presentations where local founders outline challenges in their businesses and receive constructive feedback from an audience of peers, mentors, educators, and advisors. This format encourages shared learning and ongoing support within the community.
The inaugural event spotlighted Ms. Onele Ngcingane, founder of Footwear Frenzy Cooperative, a two-month-old business that brings together 23 young people to manufacture school shoes for local communities in Malangeni village, under the leadership of Chief Phathisiwe Mjoji. "Bringing Startup Huddle to Lusikisiki fills me with excitement for the young women here who are eager to grow their businesses and contribute to the community," Tintelo added.
Supported by Chief Phathisiwe Mjoji, the Lusikisiki Startup Huddle chapter will connect young female entrepreneurs with mentors, potential investors, and critical resources to help them accelerate growth. This platform provides a unique opportunity to highlight the talents of young women, foster entrepreneurial confidence, and strengthen the rural economic ecosystem.
