BANGKOK, Nov 7 – Two startups, one each from Thailand and Brunei, will represent ASEAN at the Pitch@Palace Global 4.0 at St James’s Palace in London, the United Kingdom in December.
Thailand’s travel technology startup, TakeMeTour, won first place in the Pitch@Palace ASEAN held at the IMAX Theatre@IconSian in Bangkok on Monday. while Memori, a Brunei-based startup that digitises legacy, secured second place.
TakeMeTour and Memori have been invited to London on December 11 for Pitch@Palace Global 4.0, a global platform for entrepreneurs from markets across the world to access mentors and advisers, distribution systems and supply chains, connections and investment.
Meanwhile, Malaysian startup, HostAStay, which helps property owners convert their vacant properties into income-generating assets, won the People’s Choice Award during the Pitch@Palace ASEAN.
The Duke of York, Prince Andrew graced the Pitch@Palace ASEAN edition in Bangkok. Also present were Selangor crown prince Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Thailand Industry Minister, Suriya Juangroongruangkit.
In a statement, Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) said the winners received a return flight and accommodation to London to pitch at Pitch@Palace Global.
“Normally, a winner selected in the region will join Pitch@Palace Global in London. However, Prince Andrew makes an exception for Pitch@Palace ASEAN as two winners were chosen to join entrepreneurs and startups,” it said.
GEN, a global not-for-profit organisation, operates projects and programmes in 170 countries with the aim of making it easier for anyone, anywhere, to start and scale a business.
A total of 17 entrepreneurs and startups covering a range of industries from across all ten ASEAN countries were voted by 350 guests to pitch at Pitch@Palace Global 4.0. The companies were given three minutes to pitch in front of a group of investors and prominent business movers.
Initiated by Prince Andrew in 2014, the Pitch@Palace Global provides a platform to amplify and accelerate the work of entrepreneurs. The platform has reached 64 countries, helped 1,042 startup businesses, created 6,323 new jobs and generated over £1.12 billion in new economic activity. The survival rate for Pitch@Palace Alumni companies is 97 per cent.
