Tips & Tricks for Trademark Searching

GEW Penn State Logo
Have an idea and want to see what your trademark options are? Not sure what a trademark even is? Not sure why they are considered important? This workshop is a great starting point!

While trademarks may seem confusing, they are a valuable and underutilized public resource. This workshop is intended to introduce the exciting world of trademark searching to novice entrepreneurs and searchers. By beginning with the basics of a trademark, attendees will have a better understanding of what a trademark is and its importance in the entrepreneurial conversation. Next, the workshop will move on to searching with the Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS). Finally, a brief overview of the Pennsylvania Trademark process will be covered, along with the differences between a PA trademark and a US trademark.

Your Penn State Patent & Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) is a place to interact with information experts trained on how to use search tools to access patent and trademark information. At Penn State, PTRC information can be found at https://guides.libraries.psu.edu/patents.
