While Global Entrepreneurship Week doesn't officially start until Monday, November 18, that doesn't mean that there isn't anything going on this weekend.
Sure, there are a handful of partners and hosts that can't pack every single activity into one week so they get an early jump. But there is something a whole lot bigger -- roughly 10,000 people in 90+ cities have already formed cofounder teams at Startup Weekend events. They will wrap things up on Sunday--and that is just Round One.
Next weekend (Nov. 22-24) promises more of the same. In total, 20,000 participants are expected in as many as 200 cities (currently 187 cities are listed on the competition website).
The top two teams from each of the 187 locations are eligible to battle it out in the Global Startup Battle for $500,000 worth of prizes. Google for Entrepreneurs is providing prizes including matched funds for money raised through a crowd-funded campaign, a trip to Google's headquarters, and opportunities to get mentored by A-list entrepreneurs.
Look for a Startup Weekend at a city near you.
May the best startup win.
