Smart City Sprint week

The Smarter Smart City Challenge 2027 is set to kick of on January 2, an all-year series focused on individuals and teams, any one of any age with any interest, leveraging their entrepreneurial innovator bent to examine our localities and make them better and smarter. We anticipate multiple great ideas turning into potential startups through the year and a selection of innovative notions for the finale in January 2028!

But first… The Smart City Sprint!

What better time than Global Entrepreneurship Week to invite early adopters and aspirational entrepreneurs and innovators to whet that appetite and test their mettle ideating and innovating in the Civic Innovation space. For every circumstance where “Someone should fix that” or “That could be done better” and so on observed during our commutes to school or work, while enjoying this part of town or that, or looking out our windows day to day, there is the real possibility of realization that “I have an idea, maybe I should pursue it.”

There is no expectation that a completed product or service will be implemented during the Sprint, nor that anyone will form a startup or other venture… yet. In fact, if you have an idea that you are actively pursuing, consider your intellectual property situation, and make use of the Smart City Sprint as a practice run, a team-building exercise, and perhaps a time to check out our Innovation Culture in action!

The schedule is coming together, our sign-up platform will be available post-haste so we can dial in the schedule for the week, the finale (can we make it by 22 November, or will turn-out be such that we need a large space and more time, and can we accommodate students and their class schedule? TBD…), and the transition to the year-long Challenge.

Check our website for schedule adjustments, sign-up launch, and more details, and our meetup calendar wherein YOU may join in on the planning stages. The more the merrier!

The Smart City Sprint is open to teams based in and aimed at Nevada, not limited to the Greater Vegas area.

Smart City Sprint and the Smarter Smart City Challenge are facilitated and fiscally sponsored by the Innovate for Vegas Foundation, a Nevada Nonprofit Corporation and 501(c)(3) public charity founded in June 2022 on the legacy of Code for Vegas. Our purpose is To Enable and Encourage Ideation, Innovation, and Implementation to make our communities better. The year-long Challenge will include multiple activities but is scheduled to enable maximal participation and accomplishment, The Sprint may be a great trial run, though participation in one does not require participation in the other.
