The start of a new year is a chance to start fresh and set new goals. For many in the GEW office, this includes finding more time for simple pleasures like reading.

We are kicking off the year – and our new reading list – with a look at the entrepreneurial experience.

Startupland By: Mikkel Svane

Technology advances have made some wonder whether location has become irrelevant when creating a startup. Mikkel Svane’s Startupland however puts that notion to the test. The narrative-driven book follows Svane and his cofounders’ entrepreneurial journey both geographically – the transition from Copenhagen to Boston and then on to California – but also on a more practical level with his experience finding startup success.

The book, ripe with personal experiences and practical advice, offers insight into the early stages of building a startup including choosing a name, working in tight quarters with cofounders, finding the right kind of funding and deciding where to be based.

Startupland is a must-read for any entrepreneur who has ever wondered “do other people go through this?” or for anyone interested in what it takes to move beyond the startup stage and make it to IPO.
