A group of students from the University of Sheffield (UK), led by Dr. Chay Brooks and Professor Tim Vorley, is attending the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Medellín, Colombia, as part of the University of Sheffield’s Global Leadership Initiative (GLI).
This initiative offers high achieving undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to attend and contribute to major international summits. The students attending the GEC represent some of the brightest and most talented next generation of entrepreneurs and policy analysts.
The students attending the GEC come from a diverse range of backgrounds and interests. Economics student Dominic Keogh, who is in his final year, has experience as a young entrepreneur and has invested in several start-ups.
“The GEC is an amazing opportunity to be part of an environment that harnesses and develops the mix of creativity, policy, education, investment, entrepreneurship and innovation,” said Keogh.
Other students, such as Ellen Peacock are engaged in broadcasting and social enterprise. Peacock is a third year politics and international relations student at Sheffield, and has a background in political campaigning and media. Jonathan Harvey is a Masters student studying entrepreneurship and management at Sheffield. Winnie Liu and Ziyu Huang will also be reporting and writing from the GEC.
Liu is a full year exchange student at the Copenhagen Business School studying International Business Management. Huang is a third year sociology student, writing her dissertation on the entrepreneurial inclination among students who have studied abroad.
Final year student Elizabeth Kohorn-Hill has worked with the United Kindgom government as a policy analyst, and studies economics. During her internship as an economist in the government last year, she worked on an area of social policy that could potentially affect millions of lives in the UK.
At the GEC the students will produce real time blogs and policy briefs exploring vibrant and critical issues in global entrepreneurship. These will include insights into the debates and speeches across the many GEC sessions as well as interviews and exclusive comments from key speakers at the Congress. The students under the guidance of both Professor Tim Vorley and Dr. Chay Brooks will cover the major sessions of the Congress.
