GEN Announces Managing Director to Lead New Affiliate in Uzbekistan

Hikmat Abdurahmanov to guide GEN Uzbekistan to strengthen international connections and implement new programs, initiatives

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Global Entrepreneurship Network has appointed Hikmat Abdurahmanov as managing director of GEN Uzbekistan. In this role, Abdurahmanov is responsible for expanding collaboration among the country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem leaders and connecting them to their counterparts in more than 170 countries.

“The Uzbekistani government has demonstrated a commitment to economic reforms that advance entrepreneurship,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. “Abdurahmanov is an experienced entrepreneur with a global mindset who can work equally as well with the public sector and the private sector to strengthen efforts in the country.”

Abdurahmanov traveled recently to Thailand for GEC+Bangkok where he met with managing directors from other GEN national affiliates to explore priorities in advancing entrepreneurial growth throughout Asia.

At the global level, GEN operates in more than 170 countries. It fuels healthier start and scale ecosystems by fostering deeper cross-border collaboration and initiatives that engage entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers and entrepreneurship support organizations.

GEN Uzbekistan aims to strengthen the ecosystem by focusing on:

  • Harmonization of efforts to support national entrepreneurship;
  • Cultivation of entrepreneurial culture and thinking among citizens of Uzbekistan;
  • Deepening understanding of the dynamics of the ecosystem of Uzbekistan;
  • Impact on enterprise policies, and use of Startup Nations for global knowledge, and development of evidence based policy;
  • Identifying new entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan and facilitate access to finance and other support tools.

Along with his work as part of GEN Uzbekistan, Abdurahmanov is also the chairman of the Association of International Business and Technologies. He is a serial entrepreneur with a global focus -- cofounding a group of companies including Uzbek Chinese Trading House, TechnoPlaza and International Business Travel while providing consulting services for Uzbek companies operating in China, the United States and the European Union.
