Join Jennifer Mott and Jamie Lundquist from AWD Law as they share the upcoming changes that might affect your small business. The new federal Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Rule applies to most for-profit small to mid-sized businesses. Starting January 1, 2024, nonexempt businesses must report their beneficial ownership information (BOI) to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a bureau of the U.S. Dept. of Treasury. The BOI reports identify the individuals who ultimately own or control the company. Noncompliance can result in civil and criminal penalties including fines of up to $500 per day. We will address which companies are subject to the rule, exemptions, determining who in the company must be included in the report, the BOI report itself, and the filing process.
