Workshop 'Circular Economy and Eco-Design' with EKOMODO. Deusto Entrepreneurship Week 2023

In celebration of the Deusto Entrepreneurship Week 2023 and as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week events, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of the University of Deusto has organized a unique, dynamic, and very interesting workshop. In this 2-hour training session, we will explore circular economy and consumer responsibility in implementing sustainability, particularly in the fashion sector. 

According to the UN, the fashion industry is the second most polluting on the planet: it produces more carbon emissions than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. Its unsustainable production leads consumers to discard clothes in an increasingly shorter time frame compared to 15 years ago. Therefore, a shift in our consumer habits and a move towards sustainability is essential. This is where EKOMODO comes in, a startup from the Deusto Emprende business creation center at the Donostia campus, Innogune, which produces a wide range of products made from recycled plastics, mostly bottles.

At EKOMODO, we transform waste into resources, controlling the entire traceability of the process and enabling a plastic bottle that would take more than 500 years to degrade to be converted into different sustainable design accessories, such as fabric bags, pencil cases, computer sleeves, tablet covers, or backpacks.

EKOMODO's products are made with sustainable, 100% recycled materials which are produced locally and in social workshops, creating jobs for people at risk of social exclusion. EKOMODO has a unique Eco-Design process that will be demonstrated by Ane Errazkin (Product Development Manager) and Aritz Gartzia, CEO of EKOMODO.
