Government Leaders Join Entrepreneurial Celebration Worldwide

As Global Entrepreneurship Week campaigns grow each year and more countries join the celebration, government leaders are beginning to understand the importance of encouraging new firm formation and creating healthy entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Last November, 126 heads of state and ministers from 69 countries participated in Global Entrepreneurship Week.

This year, countries around the world are gearing up to welcome government leaders to their Global Entrepreneurship Week Events. Below are a selection of some of the ways government players are participating in GEW around the world.

The Vice Minister for Economy and Science Dr. Harald Mahrer and the Minister for EducationGabriele Heinisch-Hosek will join the GEW Austria festivities at the Entrepreneurship Summit: "Start your project".

The Crown Prince's Advisor for Political and Economic Affairs, Sh. Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifaand the Minister for Transportation and Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board H.E. Kamal Bin Ahmed will attend events during GEW.

Hon. Stephen A. Lashley, M.P attended the GEW Barbados campaign launch event in September.

Czech Republic
Czech Minister for Finance Andrej Babiš will speak at the opening conference for GEW Czech Republic, “Support of Entrepreneurial Thinking in the Czech Educational System”.

The Czech Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Mladek will be speaking in a panel discussion at the GEW closing conference, “Removing Obstacles to Entrepreneurship”.

H.R.H. the Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark will attend the Creative Business Cup Finals award show and hand out this year’s prizes. The Minister for Business and Growth, Henrik Sass Larsen, the Minister for Culture, Marianne Jelved and the Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation,Mogens Jensen will also attend the Creative Business Cup finals.

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Grabrah, minister of Trade and Industry, continues to act as outstanding ambassador and patron to GEW Ghana.

The former Prime Minister of Thailand Abhisit Vejjajiva will be attending the Global Entrepreneurship Week Indonesia Summit 2014, an event addressing the topic of “Creating Sustainable Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Indonesia towards the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015” and held in the Ciputra Artpreneur Theater.

The Minister for Trade and Investment will participate in a Market Access event as part of GEW Nigeria.

GEW Palestine has joined forces with the Ministry of Labor to co-host GEW. In the past, the Ministry of Labor has organized a National Entrepreneurship Week in Palestine so this year’s campaign aligns all national efforts with the global movement in November.

Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Rami Hamdalla will give the keynote speech at GEW Palestine’s opening event.

Ms Sim Ann, minister of state, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Communications and Information, will be the guest of honor at the GEW Singapore campaign launch on November 8, 2014.

Kim Simplis Barrow, first lady of Belize, Gertrude Mutharika, first lady of Malawi andPenehupifo Pohamba, first lady of Namibia will gather in New York City to speak at an event recognizing women entrepreneurs at the United Nations.

The Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry will officiate GEW Zambia’s opening ceremony.  

The Education Minister will MC a variety of GEW events including the My Job +1 Business Challenge Awards and the Gala Dinner on November 21, 2014.

The British High Commissioner to Zambia will officiate the Creating the Future Conference on November 22, 2014, and CBC television Stars Bath for all kids and youths between 12 and 25 years.
