The GEW USA Startup Cities initiative features cities around the United States with promising and growing entrepreneurial communities. The mission of the Startup Cities initiative is to help produce more successful entrepreneurs by increasing the number of healthy startup communities and by connecting entrepreneurs to better support services.
Here are some highlights of GEW activities in various cities across the nation and Puerto Rico.
Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina
The Cooking Up Ideas to Achieve Food for All event at UNC Chapel Hill on Nov. 21, presents a real-world challenge to students and participants to solve. Participants will hear a reverse pitch about food insecurity in North Carolina. From there, they must research, collaborate and pitch their ideas to address the problem. There will be a creative thinking and design bootcamp, as well as prizes for pitch winners. Check out some other events held across North Carolina this week.

Entrepreneurs in Louisville, Kentucky, interested in joining fellow entrepreneurs working to build their network, had the opportunity to participate in the iHub Open Co-Working Day. The co-working day, sponsored by Enterprise Corp, provides a modern, inexpensive office space for busiensses. The studios also offer new companies the opportunity to network with others in a startup ecosystem.

Tulsa, Oklahoma
The Amazing Race was one of many fun events held in celebration of entrepreneurship in Tulsa this week. Teams of three or four people sped around the city, stopping at business hotspots to pick up clues and complete team challenges. Designed to bring out the entrepreneurial spirit of contestants, the goal of the race was to complete all the challenges in the shortest amount of time.

The Big Idea Student Pitch Competition was one of many events hosted by American University’s Kogod School of Business. Students submitted pitch videos about a range of ideas from products and services to the arts and technology. Three finalists were determined based on the strength, value and potential of their idea and the quality of their presentation.
