Some countries are only just starting and some are adding new partners and organizations to their network, expanding geographically. This week’s updates include news from five continents.

New Zealand
Startup New Zealand, the new GEW host organization in New Zealand, held its first national summit Nov. 9 – 10, in preparation for Global Entrepreneurship Week. GEW in New Zealand will bring together 20 community leaders from the main cities as well as provincial centers to plan out the coming year, share best practices and engage in training for better coordinating efforts locally and nationally.

Startup New Zealand brings together and motivates regional and national communities of entrepreneurs, technical talent and related organizations. The organization runs programs including Startup Weekend, supporting early-stage entrepreneurs and their ventures.

Dave Moskovitz, founder of Startup New Zealand believes that “entrepreneurship can be difficult and risky, but by working together we can realize our goal of a connected, innovative and prosperous New Zealand.”

Mauritania
Startup Mauritania, the new GEW host organization in Mauritania, is organizing the first GEW this year in the country. Founder Ahmed Baya has brought together a large number of partner organizations, and has connected with other members of the Global Entrepreneurship Network to bring new programs to the country.

During GEW, Mauritania will have a busy week with numerous activities lined up. The opening ceremony will take place in Nouakchott on Nov. 14, which will include company executives, successful entrepreneurs, government officials, and representatives of both international and local organizations. The rest of the week will be packed with competition finals and workshops for startups, with the support of Startup Mauritania’s mentor network, as well as activities dedicated to female entrepreneurs. There will also be the Startup Weekend Mauritania event – which is part of Global Startup Battle, a global pick of GEW. The closing ceremony of the week will take place on Sunday at Hotel Tfeila.

Mauritania’s national television station will be covering the week’s activities daily.

Baya, GEW Mauritania host, believes that the first Global Entrepreneurship Week in Mauritania will be a strong step forward in building the country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, which will continue to grow stronger with support of partner organizations in coming years.
