2019 set a remarkable milestone for GEN Cambodia as it hosted 4 events during the entire week. The country theme was ‘Entrepreneurship Ecosystem towards inclusiveness in digital economy’. Our co-host and long-term partner who has hosted this GEW Cambodia since 2013 is the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Cambodia (YEAC) who also happened to celebrate its 10th anniversary as a conclusion to GEW Cambodia as well. These events consisted of keynote speech, presentations and panel discussion by various experts from private sectors, public sectors and educators. Funding the entire project are CBRD Fund, UNDP, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), all YEAC’s yearly sponsors plus individual event and venue sponsors with support from in-line ministries including Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication, Economy and Finance, Commerce, Industry and Handicraft, Labour and Vocational Training in partnership with National Institute of Posts, Telecoms and ICT (NIPTICT), Asian Vision Institute (AVI) and Business Information Center (BIC). The entire celebration gathered more than 1,500 participants in total, had 60 partners & sponsors, recruited 66 volunteers and involved 28 speakers & moderators.

On the 18th, GEW was held in Siem Reap, the 2nd major economic province in Cambodia to accommodate around 600 audiences mostly university students. The next morning, GEW was celebrated in Kampong Cham for the very first time where it received almost 400 participants to the venue. Speakers for both events were H.E. Heng Sokkung, Secretary of State Ministry of Industry and Handicraft (MIH), Oknha Sok Piseth, President of GEN Cambodia, H.E.Dr. Seng Sopheap, President of National Institute of Post and Telecommunication, and ICT (NIPTICT) also representing Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication (MPTC). The two events were organized in the same format with speakers travelled together from Siem Reap to Kampong Cham and back to the capital city, Phnom Penh. After opening session, a keynote presentation of investment opportunities in each province were done by Mr. Sim Chankiriroth, Board Member of GEN Cambodia and CEO of Banhji (and an author of Kampong Cham and Siem Reap’s Investment Guide). Agenda included the panel discussion as well by experienced panelists discussing about the future of SMEs in Cambodia in term of digital adoption into their business and how each individual/students should prepare or acquire skills for the workforce demand/market in the future.

November 22nd and 23rd , GEW Cambodia travelled to Phnom Penh where the first one targeting youths and university students (600pax) to hear about the Startup journey of the 3 most successful Startup’s founders in Cambodia and other national and international institutions such as Ministry of Economy and Finance, Impact Hub Phnom Penh and more who have been working to support the startups and the ecosystem. The 3 Founders were from Bookmebus (an online travelling booking platform), Edemy (a teaching center where students can get access to English language learning even they stay offline), and Demine Robotics (company who created robotic solution to help the world remove landmines and UXOs safely and efficiently). 23rd was more for a smaller audience (100 pax) of mostly SME’s owners in the country as the topic focused on digital adoption into the business: the challenges and opportunities that arise.
