GEW China Focuses on Startups Promoting Entrepreneurial Culture and Practices

This year’s star-studded Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) China will kick off with an opening ceremony at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum on Monday, Nov. 14. Jonathan Ortmans, President of Global Entrepreneurship Network, will also be there to give the keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates (EFG) is the host organization for GEW China. EFG was China’s first non-profit public foundation to promote entrepreneurial culture and support entrepreneurial practices. They were also one of the first Global Entrepreneurship Week host organizations to start celebrating GEW in 2008, and thanks to their initiative and vision GEW China will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year. Since 2008, EFG has organized activities in 17 provinces, 123 cities, 180 colleges and universities in China, worked with more than 50 institutions and 120 media outlets, held 100 entrepreneurship-themed events, and collected more than 20,000 entrepreneurial proposals. The total number of participants in these activities exceeds 150,000, including entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial service providers, investment agencies and enterprises interested in entrepreneurial field.

GEW China celebrations this year includes activities in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Suzhou, Wuhan, Jinan, Haikou, Xi’an and Shenzhen. In Shanghai alone, there will be around 70 entrepreneurship-focused activities and more than a hundred field exhibitions for startups –with the participation of entrepreneurs, investors, enterprise representatives, professional managers and media. More than 10,000 people are expected participate in Global Entrepreneurship Week in the city. Shanghai Science and Technology Museum will host all of the 70 events for GEW in Shanghai during that week.

Established events of GEW China, such as New Product Press Release, and New Formats Forum on Entrepreneurial Service, will be featured alongside new events that will make their debut this year. Those include Angel into the Lab, CEO Annual Meeting, Fortune 500 Innovation Needs Release Conference organized by Doer Link, and Shanghai Entrepreneurial Index Report Press Release.

GEW China will particularly focus on the concepts of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Industry 4.0 and Smarter Planet. There will be two special events, “Future Intelligence’s Day” and “AI Day.” AI Day will focus on the future of AI, and will include an AR/VR exhibition that promises to be a feast for the eyes as well as demonstrations related to hard technology, healthcare, games, finance, and other up-and-coming fields related to AI.

With the slogan “Pooling wisdom, empowering entrepreneurship,” GEW China features industry pioneers and the biggest names from investment field as guest speakers. Several prominent guests from the entrepreneurship and investment community will share their personal entrepreneurial journeys and probe into the hottest topics of the industry. With startups at its core, GEW China does not only provide the grounds for them to exhibit their ideas and projects, but also organizes events such as Entrepreneurial Service and My Date with Angel Investors. Hundreds of famous guests from both China and abroad will be on stage delivering speeches, having round-table discussions, as well as roadshows featuring hundreds of promising startups. Off stage, activities such as Entrepreneurial Service and Angel Investment Extensive Training Camp will provide on-site Q&A for the entrepreneurs who need support; My Date with Angel Investors will give the opportunity to startups founders to talk face to face with investors.

GEW China, this year, will not remain geographically limited to China but will also simultaneously have a spill over effect on international platforms. International organizations with offices in China will launch entrepreneurial activities as sponsors, startups abroad who would like to expand their activities to the Chinese market, including members of organizations such as Sino-US Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum for Big Names, XNode Pitching Project Roadshow, etc. will also participate in GEW China.
