With less than 20 days until this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week, preparations for GEW campaigns have gained speed in many parts of the world. GEW leaders from all continents are sharing their outlook for the 10th year of the celebration in their countries.
As GEW Zambia prepares for their 10 year anniversary celebrations, Edwin Zulu from ELIF Business Solutions, the official GEW host in Zambia, sees a very positive outlook since the president of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Lungu, launched the Seventh National Development Plan in June 2017, aimed at attaining the long-term objectives in the Vision 2030 of becoming a “prosperous middle-income country by 2030.”
“This year’s GEW in Zambia from will focus on developing that entrepreneurial acumen and helping to develop and celebrate entrepreneurship across Zambia,” said Zulu.
The largest event of this GEW Zambia this year, will be held in Kitwe at the Copperbelt University 's Entrepreneurship Centre. This event will be officiated by Prof Luo, the Minister of Education. Another GEW event the organizers are looking forward to will be held at BongoHive in Lusaka focusing on information and communication technology.
As part of the week, there will be events held all week at the COMESA Headquarters and at WECREATE Zambia. The events in COMESA will be officiated by Silvia Chalikosa from the Vice President's Office. WECREATE’s focus for the week will be on women entrepreneurship, as WECREATE Zambia serves as an entrepreneurial community center for women interested in starting or expanding an existing business. The major sponsors for this year’s GEW are the Swedish Embassy and the American Embassy in Zambia with substantial support from the banking industry in Zambia.
Current endorsements of the week include the Ministry of Education, Vice President's Office, COMESA Secretary General and the African Development Bank.
Miryoung Song, from Korean Entrepreneurship Foundation, the official host organization of GEW in the country, said this year’s slogan for GEW South Korea is “Waking up with tomorrow's quality of life with today's challenges.”
This year, South Korea is expecting a record turnout at Global Entrepreneurship Week due to their focus on problem-solving based approaches. The week aims to deliver the concepts of entrepreneurship in a way that helps South Koreans deal with the current challenges in today’s business landscape. It will also allow them to work on ideas to help them transition smoothly to the 4th Industrial Revolution and deal with changes in digital technology.
There will be four major events held over the course of the week. The biggest event that week is the Keynote Speech and Concert on November 13. Another highlight of the week, The Makers Camp, will take place on November 13 and 14. Get in The Ring South Korea and Happy Entrepreneurship Family Camp are both being held on November 14.
The week is made possible with the support of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the University Entrepreneurship Center(U-Startup). Current endorsements include the Minister of MSS and the Chairman of the Korea Entrepreneurship Foundation.
Global Entrepreneurship Week in Monaco this year coincides with Monaco’s National Day. According to Marina Mazza, the GEW host in Monaco from Junior Chamber International, Monaco is focusing on attracting more entrepreneurs each year to the week and is launching its first startup incubator in the coming days.
“Monaco has been hosting events such as trainings, conferences and a business plan competitions to stimulate entrepreneurs throughout the year building up the excitement for the Week,” said Mazza. “There are programs such as Graine d'Entrepreneur which is an entrepreneurship program for schools to unlock the students’ potential in a stimulating, educational and creative way. We aim to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders. “
One of the highlights of the week is the Best Business Plan Prize Ceremony being held on November 14, during the Monaco Business Congress at the Auditorium Rainier III in Monaco. GEW Monaco will also lead into Get in the Ring Monaco which will be held in December 2017.
