Buke Cuhadar, GEN’s vice president of global operations, provides a snapshot of Global Entrepreneurship Week activities in countries around the world, spotlighting efforts of GEW hosts and partners to celebrate entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial spirit.
According to Fatma Khamis, the General Secretary of ZAYEE, the official GEW host organization in Tanzania, there is a renewed spirit of entrepreneurship and the hope that Tanzania can have a bigger impact globally, after celebrating the week from November 13 to November 19. The week aims to develop and celebrate entrepreneurship across the country.
One of the highlights of the week in Tanzania this year is a round-table featuring policy discussion and how to best engage the Startup Genome to map Tanzania's Entrepreneurship ecosystem.
This year’s biggest event will be the launch of the Zanzibar Association of Women Entrepreneurs (ZAWE) held on November 15, at the Doubletree Hotel Stone Town. Hon. Amb Amina Salum Ali, Tanzania’s Minister of Labour, Employment, Elders, Youth Women and Children, will deliver a keynote speech during the event.
The largest financial supporters of the week this year are the Ministry of Trade Industry and Marketing, and the International Labour Organization. The week is endorsed by two different ministers in Tanzania, the Minister of Trade Industry and Marketing, as well as the Hon. Amb Amina Salum Ali.
This year’s GEW marks the 10th consecutive year in Denmark where entrepreneurs gather throughout the country for a week focusing on idea generation and entrepreneurship.
Organized by IVAEKST, the official GEW host organization in Denmark, this year’s opening ceremony gave the partners and the participants the opportunity to have a two hour discussion with the Minister of Business. Google, Ase, PwC, Leo Pharma, Danske Bank, Public.io are among many supporters of the week. The Minister of Business, as well as leaders from many large corporations, have endorsed the week and the celebration of entrepreneurship.
Creative Business Cup Finals are also taking place between November 14-17 in Copenhagen during this week. Buke Cuhadar, GEN’s vice president for global operations, will be taking part as a jury member and a panelist.
This year, GEW in Canada is being met with excitement and the GEW partners and participants across Canada looking forward to taking part in the event. Futurpreneur Canada (formerly the Canadian Youth Business Foundation) is the official Canadian host of GEW for the ninth consecutive year.
For the third year, Futurpreneur presents GEW Canada: On the Road, as Canada’s marquee GEW initiative with the support of Amway Canada. As part of the initiative, 3 Canadian ambassadors are traveling across the country to highlight the impact of entrepreneurship on young Canadians. More information can be found here. Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Prime Minister, issued a statement on GEW at the start of the week. Ministers across all provinces, C-suite representatives from RBC and many others are also endorsing the week.
