Buke Cuhadar, GEN’s vice president of global operations, provides a snapshot of Global Entrepreneurship Week activities in countries around the world, spotlighting efforts of GEW hosts and partners to celebrate entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial spirit.
This year’s GEW in Vietnam is being implemented by all GEN Vietnam's members and shaping up to be a country-wide celebration attracting the attention of the startup community.
The largest event of GEW in Vietnam was the TECHFEST 2017 in Hanoi from November 14-15. TECHFEST is one of the largest national annual events for the entire stakeholders in Vietnam ecosystem. The event is endorsed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, co-organized together with ministries, agencies and other startup ecosystem builders in Vietnam with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam. The theme of this year’s festival was “Ecosystem Connect.” The partners at TECHFEST 2017 were in charge of building the content to attract targeted attendees in each village, namely: Community, Agritech, Edtech, Medtech, Tourism and F&B, Emerging tech. TECHFEST 2017 attracted over 3,000 visitors, more than 200 startups, about 130 local and international angel investors and VCs. Learn more here.

According to Amina Naar from Tenmou, the official GEW host organization in Bahrain, the mood for this year’s GEW in Bahrain is excitement and anticipation. All partners are looking forward to working together as a business community to support the ecosystem and aid in its continuous growth. The week is focusing this year on developing entrepreneurial acumen by helping to develop and celebrate entrepreneurship across Bahrain.
The biggest event of the country this year will be the Startup Weekend in Bahrain. It will be held between November 16 - 19, 2017 at the Muharraq Governorate on Amwaj Avenue. This is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The major sponsors of this year are Tenmou and Tamkeen. Tamkeen has a schedule of events for the week, including seminars on having a "job as an entrepreneur," and discussions such as an evening with entrepreneurship. Tamkeen also sponsored a 10-year anniversary of #GEW2017 event at the United Nations in New York on Wednesday.
This year’s GEW in El Salvador is inspiring a national celebration of advancements and achievements. During this year’s activities, the participants will be creating, forming, motivating and growing as a country through productive projects for local entrepreneurs. The participants and organizers of the week are especially looking forward to seeing the public and private business sectors throughout the country coming together to promote young entrepreneurs and innovation.
According to FUSADES, the official GEW host organization, the largest event happening in El Salvador during GEW will be the “El Salvador Emprende.” This event will bring together members of various institutions and the Entrepreneurship Advisory Council, to promote services for enterprises in all sectors of the country. The event will take place on Friday, November 17, all day at the David J. Guzman National Museum (MUNA) in San Salvador. This event us made possible with the support of CONAMYPE and the USDA.
