Innovate Nairobi Tech Week 2024: Uzuzi Hub Sparks Innovation

Uzuzi Hub held a pre-event for Global Entrepreneurship Week, in partnership with the Nairobi City County, under the Innovation and Digital Economy Sector—Digital Economy & Startups Sub-sector. As a leading innovation hub in Nairobi focusing on entrepreneurship, creative economy, innovation, and digital literacy ran the Innovate Nairobi Tech Week, a disruptive event organized under the Innovation and Digital Economy Sector—Digital Economy & Startups Sub-sector. It is underpinned by the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2023-2027. The three-day event at the University of Nairobi brought together a community of innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders.

The three-day-long conference kicked off with a powerful keynote address by the Governor of Nairobi, Hon. Sakaja Jonson Arthur, who emphasized the city's commitment to fostering innovation and creating a conducive environment for entrepreneurship through the creation of Innovation Centers. Renowned legal scholar Prof. P. L.O Lumumba also addressed the audience, on the last day, inspiring students with his thought-provoking insights on National and County Connectivity.

As a key ecosystem partner, Uzuzi Hub hosted the highly competitive Startup Pitch Competition, attracting 23 innovative startups from across the city. The Startup Pitch Competition showcased the vibrant and diverse tech ecosystem in Nairobi. Participants presented their innovative ideas to a panel of industry experts, contesting for the grand prize. The competition highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of Nairobi's young tech talent.

Uzuzi Hub provided essential support to the participating startups, including experienced mentors who guided startups in refining their pitches and business plans, the event facilitated connections between startups, investors, and industry leaders, and a panel of experts, who were in the judging panel provided constructive feedback to help startups improve their ideas. The Chief Officer, David Oyolo, and Director Elizabeth Ndungu Digital Economy and Startups awarded the top startups and encouraged all the participants.

The competition was a resounding success, attracting a large and enthusiastic audience. Several startups secured investment deals, and others received valuable mentorship and guidance. The Innovate Nairobi Tech Week, with Uzuzi Hub's active participation, has significantly contributed to the growth of the city's tech ecosystem. It has showcased the innovative spirit of Nairobi's startups and attracted investment and partnerships.

Uzuzi Hub remains committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Nairobi. We will continue to support emerging startups, collaborate with industry leaders, and advocate for favorable policies that promote the growth of the tech ecosystem among youth in Kenya.

In partnership with other Ecosystem companies such as Finn Church Aid, AfricaHackOn, Chasing Mavericks, AGI Nairobi, Association of Startup and SMEs Enablers of Kenya (ASSEK), EdTech East Africa, Esri Eastern Africa, Neural Labs Africa, Villgr Africa, African STEM Girl, ICT Authority, STEM Labs, and TECH Kids Africa, we were able to reach over 1000 applicants for the Tech Week.
