This year the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is organizing its third Global Empretec Summit, which is a gathering of entrepreneurs from around the world, including graduates from UNCTAD's Empretec program and directors and representatives of Empretec centers. The Summit provides attendees an opportunity to exchange entrepreneurship experiences, establish cross-border business links and explore new market opportunities.

Empretec is a flagship capacity-building initiative of UNCTAD, which aims to promote entrepreneurship and competitive micro, small and mid-sized businesses (MSMEs) for the benefit of sustainable and inclusive development, poverty eradication, as well as women and youth empowerment.

It helps to facilitate growth, investment and trade opportunities, including export promotion for participating MSMEs and startups. First introduced in Argentina in 1988, the EMPRETEC program has been established in 36 countries, assisting more than 340,000 entrepreneurs through local market driven EMPRETEC business support centers.

The main goal of the Global Empretec Summit III is to facilitate establishing cross-border business ventures and broaden the global Empretec network. It will be conducted as an interactive debate and will be opened by Tatiana Krylova, head of the Enterprise Branch at UNCTAD. The Summit will also feature a number of distinguished entrepreneurs from the Empretec network who will share their success stories influenced by the Empretec methodology, and solicit business contacts.

In the past, the Summit took place in 2014 in Moscow, Russia, and in 2015 in Milan, Italy, bringing together all the bright minds of entrepreneurs and Empretec graduates from around the world – creating a number of new partnerships between attending participants.

To attend the Summit, please register on the event page at the GEC official website. You can also add the event to your Schedule using “Schedule” tab on your GEC Profile page. The participation is free of charge and open to all GEC attendees.

The Summit will be held by UNCTAD on Wednesday, March 16, at Plaza Mayor Convention and Exhibition Center in Medellín, Colombia, as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC).
