Kansas City is leading the GEW USA leaderboard with over 100 activities planned for Global Entrepreneurship Week. Kansas City has participated in GEW since its inception in 2008. This year, GEWKC will take place in a hybrid format with a combination of in-person and virtual activities, November 8-14.

Jenny Miller, GEW USA Community Organizer and Senior Director of Ecosystem Development at KC SourceLink has gathered event submissions from the KC ecosystem to ensure a variety of activities are taking place throughout the week so all entrepreneurs have the resources they need to start and grow their businesses. Activities fall into five tracks: Startups, Scalers, Social Enterprise, Youth Entrepreneurship and Inclusion and Entrepreneurship.

There is a mix of educational, informative and entertaining activities to participate in and you can build your own schedule for the week on the GEWKC site. Some can’t-miss activities include “Scaling a Social Impact Business as a Latinx Entrepreneur,” “Join the Family Business – from the Perspective of the 2nd Generation,” and “Girls Just Wanna Have FUNding Pitch Showcase.”

Additionally, AltCap, a Kansas City-based community development financial institution, is hosting a pitch competition offering a $20,000 grand prize for the best business idea. The competition is open to entrepreneurs with an existing business with annual revenue of $150,000 or less or entrepreneurs with a business idea ready to start operation within six months of the competition. This year, the prize money has increased with $20,000 for first place, $10,000 for second place and $5,000 for third place. The 10 finalists will submit full business proposals and pitch in front of a panel at GEWKC in November. There is still time to apply to take home the prize!
