Beyond the Open World Program in May, dedicated to establishing support at the Government level, we had the pleasure of connecting with our colleagues from GEN Global and NC Idea from North Carolina. NC Idea supports the state economy by providing ecosystem and business grants to build entrepreneurial potential within North Carolina. During the meeting with NC Idea representatives Thom Ruhe and Sarah, the discussion revolved around potential projects and programs to build this partnership taking the vast experience of NC Idea and GEN Global. The parties were represented by Thom Ruhe and Sarah Mixter (NC Idea), Garry Lyon (GEN Global), Lora Sinigur (Bilateral Partnership North Carolina and the Republic of Moldova), and Olesea Fortuna (GEN Moldova).

During this conversation, the attendees had the possibility to explore further coordination, expanding the scope of the collaboration, and matching connections in the business sectors, as well as linking startup communities from North Carolina and Moldova, exchanging best practices within the framework of the partnership, and promoting sustainability and entrepreneurship inclusion in Moldova. Together they shared views on principles of ecosystem development, considerations, and methodologies effective in the US, and what could be implemented in the Republic of Moldova by shifting mindsets, working bottom up – in rural communities, and establishing programs that are going to be a great fit for the given situatedness, growing local communities, investment literacy and bringing together entrepreneurship from the two states. Also this week, we met with the NC State Entrepreneurship Clinic to review our working relationship within the LOCAL BOND project and how we can continue our commitment to developing rural businesses. The visit was made possible by the Open World Program, managed by the Congressional Office for International Leadership, and the North Carolina-Moldova Bilateral Partnership, and it is hoped that it will inspire new programs and promote joint progress!
