Washington, D.C. & North Carolina, USA – March 2025 – A distinguished delegation of Moldovan entrepreneurs, academics, and business leaders has completed an intensive professional exchange as part of the Open World Program, engaging with U.S. policymakers, innovation hubs, and business leaders to reinforce entrepreneurship, sustainability, and cross-border cooperation. The program, held from March 5-15, 2025, was managed by the Congressional Office for International Leadership (COIL) and implemented in Moldova by the American Councils for International Education, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău.

A Two-Phase Program: Policy, Innovation & Entrepreneurship

 

📍 Phase 1: Leadership & Policy Engagement in Washington, D.C. (March 5-7, 2025)

The delegation’s journey began in Washington, D.C., where participants took part in a high-level orientation seminar at the Library of Congress, gaining insight into U.S. governance, legislative processes, and economic policies.

🔹 Meetings with U.S. Congressional representatives, including the office of Congresswoman Deborah Ross, co-chair of the Congressional Moldova Caucus, underscored Moldova’s growing role in global economic discussions.
🔹 Engagements with thought leaders and industry professionals offered a deeper understanding of how public and private sectors collaborate in the U.S. to support business ecosystems.

📍 Phase 2: Innovation & Economic Development in North Carolina (March 7-15, 2025)

The second half of the program brought the delegation to Raleigh and Wake Forest, North Carolina, where they were hosted by the NC Secretary of State Office, leading the Bilateral Partnership between North Carolina and the Republic of Moldova and Wake Forest Rotary Club. The delegates explored entrepreneurship, sustainable business models, and academic collaboration.

✅ Entrepreneurial Innovation: Vsits to NC State University’s Entrepreneurship Clinic & Andrews Launch Accelerator, Blush and Healthy Carolinians Network of UNC provided an in-depth look at startup incubation, Community economic development, investment networks, and business acceleration models.
✅ Sustainability & Circular Economy: Sessions with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality highlighted eco-friendly business initiatives, waste management strategies, and the role of policy in environmental innovation.
✅ Cultural & Tourism Sector Development: At NC State University’s College of Natural Resources, discussions centered on sustainable tourism, agritourism, and creative economy opportunities.
✅ Public-Private Partnerships: A meeting with the North Carolina Secretary of State’s Office explored potential economic ties under the NC-Moldova Bilateral Partnership, opening new avenues for collaboration.
✅ Community & Cultural Exchange: Hosted by local families in Wake Forest, delegation members experienced grassroots-level entrepreneurship while strengthening people-to-people connections.
