The Republic of Guatemala, located in Central America, has been characterized by its leadership and the early victories it experienced regarding to the consolidation and design process of its entrepreneurship public policy.
For the policy design process, we have created a space called the National Committee for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship under the leadership of the Ministry of Economy.
The current government has taken a series of steps that have led to the creation of new and innovative tools to strengthen the country’s productive conditions. Under this philosophy of collaborative work, open spaces for opinions, dialogue and analysis with the public, private and academic sectors have contributed to creating the national strategy for entrepreneurship called “GUATEMALA EMPRENDE.” This strategy takes as its starting point the following strategic axes: industry support, finance, institutional articulation, mentality and culture, and educational system.
These actions will mark a milestone, because for the first time the country will have a national entrepreneurship strategy allowing us to implement a comprehensive vision in order to identify priority topics for the country’s entrepreneurship agenda.
We have addressed issues such as defining our mission and our vision, identified stakeholders and exchanged concepts of entrepreneurship to go into a deeper and unifying approach. We have also reached a consensus to avoid a duplication of efforts in the entrepreneurial process and defined complementary roles between institutions. Guatemala’s entrepreneurial process has facilitated the sharing of information and knowledge of over 26 institutions that are betting on entrepreneurship to further develop the country.
